Celebrating The Arrival of Spring!
ELECTRIFYING!!! There really is no other way to describe the celebratory mood that took place in the beautifully-decorated hall the Friday morning of 20th January. We ushered in the Year of the Rabbit on a grand scale compared with the relatively lackluster celebrations of the last few years.
In line with the theme of “Spring of Blossom and Togetherness”, students were encouraged to bring traditional Chinese New Year (CNY) goodies to share with their classmates. The school also held a donation drive for the less privileged patients with Tan Tock Seng Hospital.
We certainly saved the best for last with a grand celebration in the school hall for the student body. The hall was beautifully decorated by the Mother Tongue Languages (MTL) department, and the green curtains made for a splendid contrast with the red lanterns and other auspicious decorations put up by the MTL department. There was a concert performed by our very own talented dancers, guzheng, band and martial arts exponents from Taekwondo. The school band certainly put us in the groove with catchy CNY staples and helped put us in the mood for the Lion dance!
The prancing lions certainly made a grand entrance after a no-show for the last few years! What is CNY without a lion dance? It was certainly a treat for the senses. Their resplendent red and gold costumes, and the beat of the drums that accompanied the lion dancers as they pranced into the hall, the concert, and the arrival of the four gods of prosperity made this year’s celebration a spectacular one indeed.
The best part was being able to share the festive cheer with our guests from Golden Pines. The celebration ended with the staff doing a lo hei with the guests after the concert.
