INHERITANCE & INNOVATION: SALUTE TO OUR VETERANS

Developing for over a century, Scout Association of Hong Kong is the largest local youth uniformed group with the longest history in Hong Kong. The success of Hong Kong Scout Movement relies on a group of dedicated Scout leaders who had sacrificed their personal life and devoted much of their time and resources. Many of them had been served for over 65 years in various positions with different responsibilities and capacities. Due to a variety of circumstances, some of them had to suspense their Scouting roles and focused on either work, family or emigration.  When all the dust was settled, they returned to Scouting, discharged their duties effectively and assisted the development of Hong Kong Scouting.

Regardless they have received the Long Service Medal, with 4 / 5 stars, we want to use this exhibition to express our gratitude for this group of highly respected Scouting veterans. They paved the way for our success, the joy of getting involved out right the effort.  There is nothing compare with their passion for Scouting.  Many of them humbly declined an interview, believing that what they had done was not worth mentioning and there was no need to recognize their contribution.

We would like to use this exhibition to share the story of the veterans and outline the scouting activities and social changes during this century. Through their experience and contribution to the community, their humble kind frame of mind and Scouting spirit is a role model for the next generation of Scout leaders.

The exhibition is divided into three parts:

1. List of the Long Service Medal with 5 Stars Recipients.

2. List of the Long Service Medal with 4 Stars Recipients.

3. List of Veteran Scouters without the Long Service Medal with 4 / 5 stars but had served in 1950s or 1960s.

There are many Scout leaders and volunteers helping our success over the past hundred years. This exhibition only shows a fraction of the populations, there are countless number of unsung heroes who are unable to present due to limited space on Scout Gallery. We are so grateful and appreciate their lifelong contribution from the bottom of our hearts.
