ASSOCIATION HEADQUARTERS

The Headquarters of Scout Association of Hong Kong is the administrative hub of the Hong Kong Scout Movement. It supports the administration work and provides venues for Scout group meetings, Scout training, activities and conferences. Thanks to economic growth and the increasing support from society, the facilities of the Association Headquarters have been improved steadily laying a solid foundation for the development of Hong Kong Scout Movement.

From 1911 onwards, there have been 4 locations for the Association Headquarters.

Pre-War Headquarters

1930s to Pre-war era

In 1910s, there was no permanent venue for the Headquarters. In 1920s, it occupied some space of the “Seamen’s Institute” in Wanchai. Later, it was moved several times until 1930s to the Lower Albert Road, Hong Kong.

Morse Hut

1949-1954

In post-war period, the temporary Headquarters was set up at the old City Hall and then the “Sandiland’s Hut” in the Victoria Barracks, Garden Road, Hong Kong in 1947. Later a land at Garden Road was granted by the War Office to build the Headquarters. “Morse Hut” was opened in 1949 and named after Sir Arthur Morse, the then President of the Association.

Morse House

1957-1994

Due to the continued development of Hong Kong Scouting, there was inadequate space in Morse Hut. Thanks to the subsides from Sir Arthur Morse, the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club and the Government, the 2-storeyed “Morse House” in Cox’s Road, Kowloon, was opened in 1954.

Hong Kong Scout Centre

1994-Present

Morse House was inadequate in meeting the growing need as a result of rapid development of Hong Kong Scouting. In 1989, a land in Austin Road, Kowloon was granted by the Hong Kong Government to the Association in exchange for the land of “Morse House”. The 25-storeyed “Hong Kong Scout Centre” opened in 1994 mainly comprising the Association Headquarters and the BP International House. A number of venues with modernized facilities provide great flexibility for holding conferences, training, exhibitions and ceremonies.
