2006 NE-03 election

As of 2025, this is the last time NE-03 was decided by single digits (or was remotely competitive for that matter), as well as the last time the Democratic candidate won a county in the district. Additionally, this is the only time Smith has received less than 70% of the vote in a general election.

2018 state auditor election

While the 2018 election results in Nebraska were fairly uneventful in the end, with Republicans sweeping every statewide race by large margins, the campaigns themselves proved to be much more interesting. When Republican State Auditor Charlie Janssen announced his re-election bid, he was favored to cruise into another term owing to Nebraska's blood-red lean. However, in September 2018, the Omaha World-Herald reported Janssen took three hour long lunches, often involving beer, at a Lincoln sports bar, prompting Nebraska Democratic Party chair Jane Kleeb to call for his resignation. Janssen acknowledged the reports were accurate and apologized, stating he was "taking

steps to make changes,", while Republicans tried to counter by highlighting how Bob Krist, the Democratic gubernatorial nominee, allegedly drank on the job. In the end, Janssen was saved by Nebraska's partisan lean, winning by a little over 15%. However, Janssen's performance was the worst among any state-wide Nebraska Republican, with Janssen announcing his retirement as State Auditor in 2021.

2024 PResidential election in lps nrd

In 2024, Donald Trump (R) won the Cornhusker state by a 20.46% margin, improving slightly on his 2020 performance (although failing to replicate his 25.05% margin from 2016). As part of his victory, Trump won the Lower Platte South Natural Resource District*, containing Lincoln and surrounding rural areas, by 3.2%. While Harris was able to win Lincoln, and thus the portion of Lancaster County, her relatively narrow win was not enough to overcome Trump's overwhelming victories in rural areas. Trump's victory here highlights a recurring problem for Democrats in Nebraska (and other rural red states), mainly that they aren't able to win big cities by enough to offset the huge margins Republicans get from less populated rural areas. However, as Dan Osborn's victory in NE-01 demonstrates, that dynamic can change with the right candidate.

*NRD elections are non-partisan and very low profile (most are uncontested and finding information can be tricky), so Trump's victory doesn't have a ton of implications there.

2024 US senate election

2024 saw a resurgence in ticket-splitting across the country, and Nebraska proved no different. As Donald Trump (R) won the Cornhusker state by a 20.46% margin, incumbent Senator Deb Fischer (R) held her seat by less than 7 points against Dan Osborn, a mechanic and former union president.

2026 Un Board of Regents d-4 primary

Notably, Susanne Shore is the former first lady of Nebraska, as she is currently married to former governor and current US Senator Pete Ricketts. Ricketts endorsed his wife despite the former running as a Republican and the latter as a Democrat (although Shore's race is officially nonpartisan).
