In 1867, voters in Canada went to the polls to elect the first-ever Canadian parliament. Earlier that same year, the passage of the British North America Act by the British Parliament established the Dominion of Canada, comprising the provinces of Ontario, Quebec, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick.
