Umbrel OS

Last update 2022

Run your personal server with a Bitcoin and Lightning node in your home, self-host open source apps like Nextcloud and Matrix to break away from big tech, and take full control of your data. For free.

Install Umbrel on the hardware of your choice. After installation open http://umbrel.local to access your Umbrel on any device connected to the same network.

All our interactions on the internet today are mediated by a few companies who offer “free” services in exchange for storing our data on their servers to spy on us.

Running a personal server fundamentally changes that. You and your family’s photos, videos, files, notes, passwords — everything, have nothing to do with someone else’s computer. They’re a part of your private life, and now they can all be stored by you, in your home, on your Umbrel.

Run your personal Bitcoin and Lightning node:

Connect all of your favorite wallets:

Achieve unparalleled privacy by connecting your wallet directly to the Bitcoin node on your Umbrel. This ensures that your wallet company can’t spy on your transactions, or even worse — lie to you.

Or connect any other wallet that supports Bitcoin Core P2P, Bitcoin Core RPC, the Electrum protocol, or lndconnect.

Don’t trust. Verify.On Steroids:

Independently store and validate every single Bitcoin transaction with your Bitcoin node. Plus, transacting with your own node also helps keep the entire Bitcoin network decentralized; win-win!

Live the future of Bitcoin with Lightning, today:

The Lightning Network offers ultra cheap and almost instant Bitcoin transactions. Umbrel runs a Lightning node out of the box so you can start leveraging the power of Lightning today.

Run your private cloud with Nextcloud:

An entirely self-hosted Google Drive replacement — store your documents, calendar, contacts, photos and videos on your Umbrel with Nextcloud instead of Google’s servers.

Self-host your photo and video library with PhotoPrism:

Privately host, browse, organize, and share your photo and video collection with PhotoPrism, and say goodbye to uploading your visual memories to the “cloud”.

Automate your home with Home Assistant:

Open source home automation that puts local control and privacy first. Home Assistant integrates with over a thousand different devices and services to make your home work for you.

Dragon OS Pi 64

Last update 2022

Out of the box OS for SDRs

DragonOS Pi64 is an out-of-the-box 20.04 aarch64 Raspberry Pi based operating system for anyone interested in software defined radios.

All source installed software is located in the /usr/src directory while the remaining software was installed by package managers. This is a brief summary of the software included, while not complete, it covers the bigger named packages and some of the drivers installed for the various supported SDRs such as the HackRF One, RTL-SDR, and LimeSDR.

The DragonOS Focal Origin Story

One day, when we are all old and gray, we will look back with amazement at all the changes that happened when coronavirus COVID-19 became a pandemic and the world went into voluntary quarantine, self-confinement, or lockdown, depending on where you lived. Most people spent much more time indoors at home. The morning commute changed almost overnight from dropping the kids off at school and a quick stop at Starbucks to letting the dog out the back door and a quick stop at the coffeemaker. In short, many found that they suddenly had more free time and fewer ways to use the newfound time productively, enjoyably, and safely. One such person was DragonOS Focal’s developer, Cema Xecuter.

Cema Xecuter made the best of the situation and decided that the lockdown was more than a burden. It was an opportunity. It was a chance to learn more about RF, which was something he always wanted to do. He had also seen the enormous positive impact that Kali Linux had on offensive security, penetration testing, digital forensics, and white-hat hacking. Then inspiration struck, and he saw the fantastic potential in following the Kali Linux model, but with the focus on Software Defined Radio (SDR).

The plan was to create a Linux distribution with a comprehensive suite of pre-installed SDR software tools with support for many of the most popular and accessible SDR radios. No significant innovation comes without growing pains, and DragonOS is no different. DragonOS Focal follows in the footsteps of the first two DragonOS distributions DragonOS_10 and DragonOS_LTS, but Focal is the distribution that will stride into the future in lockstep with advancements in SDR hardware and software. Cema Xecuter is working hard to keep the distribution portable and accessible for users of all experience levels. He hopes DragonOS will become the go-to resource for SDR to the same degree that Kali Linux has become a one-stop-shop for the fields of offensive security and digital forensics, and that it will be an enjoyable and useful way to make use of your newfound free time!

NextPi

Last update 2019

NextPi is a customised DietPi version distributed with the original "KS1" nexts. It is anticpated that the KS2 Nexts will ship with NextPi2.

NextPi is optimised for Read Only filesystems (making them safe to turn off without a clean shutdown) and are designed with the specific use of embedded in an 8-bit computer in mind as an "Assistant Processor - this means, in short, that they're not usable as "General Purposes" Linux installs, and thus lack many quality of life, and user features found on distributions like Rasbian. Both NextPi does have writable FAT16 user partitions which can be used for user software development and misc. purposes although, for developed games using the Pi for media playback, and executing assistant code /ram is more suited, and NextPi 2 also has a Persistent Cache system, managed by the nextpi-cache CLI API.

NextPi 1 was designed for a 1GB SD card, and will not take advantage of cards biggsd. NextPi 2 (currently in active development) is designed for a 16GB SD card, and will not work on smaller cards, and like it's predecessor, won't take advantage of larger cards.

** I wanted this to pay homage to the greatest computer system ever. THIS IS NOT PERFECT! Tweaks might be needed for your setup!  like audio buffers from 8 to off entirely, or maybe a manual hdmi display setup to cea mode 31, please take that into consideration. There is always room for improvement.**

**if you purchase roms from currently sold from Cloanto and or Hyperion. please run Amiga Forever /Winuae one time to decrypt the roms. otherwise they may not work! ***if you use a newer ROM you may have to replace the icon.library from the Aminet version. by Peter K.

***Note this is provided as non working. YOU choose to make it functional by using your own purchased or owned roms***

Please read the read me included with the archive , you can also ask in the comments, or the discord server.

First boot make change password, diificult to get one easy, you need to put one very strong!!! Very annoying but secure. And create a user and his strong password.

The system came without hardware acceleration and without sound!!!

Sound simple fix, thanks to PulseAudio, open Terminator put the password you set for the current user and type:

Type password

Go to Armbian Menu -> Sound & Video -> PulseAudio Volume Control(Pavucontrol)

Then choose Configuration and check that Built-in Audio is set:
