Caraxes

Caraxes lives far north of the Wall in Westeros. He merged with a Time Elemental when he became old, and the creature keeps him from aging, and also makes him almost invulnerable to harm. He lives in a deep cave.

Outside of the borders of his lair, which is a mountain with about a fifteen mile radius of safety, the land is ruled by some sort of lich of great power. Caraxes has placed a defensive enchantment that reaches fifteen miles from his lair, blocking flight, teleportation, and the like. He also has thousands of animal minions that he can see through their eyes, and will know when strangers approach. The spells around his mountain do not prevent flight of creatures that do not radiate any kind of magic.

The area around Hardhome is overrun by a sort of undead. Some walk around, others are beneath the surface.            Caraxes says that only non-magical wood will harm him with regards to weapons. He suspects that quasi-elemental magic might be the best spells to do it harm, Radiance or Ash, or maybe Magma. He does not think any other elemental damage will harm it. It apparently has extremely high magic resistance, and very high undead type resistances.

Caraxes has an owl minion named Snowy.

A group of adventurers visited the dragon in 1168, and made a trade with him for some magical items. He granted them the ability to teleport into his 'safe zone'. These adventurers included Hazor and Delhawk, Conner and Fertini, Angmar, Atty and Deimos, Paraswarm, Jazdan, Barathorn, Browyn and Iro, Theophilus and Joxette.
