We have reached the second activity of the Past Continuous project, a project that uses recent history as a tool to work on disinformation. The powerful have appropriated images and narratives to impose their point of view through ideological propaganda and control of the media.
On this occasion, we will carry out the activity entitled Do photographs always tell the truth?, where We are placed in the period of World War II, specifically, the Hendaye meeting showing the political interrelations between the fascist regimes of Spain and Germany and the hypothetical entry of Spain into the international conflict.
The activity will be developed in 3 PHASES. In each of them you will find the reference and work material to carry out the different tasks that we have prepared for you. Are you up for it? Go ahead!
To get started, you can click on this link
pdf1
(not found). which will place you in the historical context of the activity and will give you clues to understand what was happening at the time the photograph was taken: the meeting of Hitler and Franco in Hendaye.
After this brief introduction, let's move on to answering the following question: what was the role of the media in Europe in 1940?
To do this, we invite you to carefully observe the two maps of the first phase, where you will have to compare totalitarian regimes and their use of the press.
After this first step that introduced us to the activity, we want you to continue with the second step, so look at the following image. click here! (cal pujar la imatge a la carpeta de drive)

Then, consult this link. This protocol is key to carrying out a thorough analysis of the photograph. You can consult the source as many times as you need. A tip! Read the questions we ask you first so that you can focus on the details hidden in the image.
Finally, and to close this second activity, we suggest you download this document, to compare, again, the two images and analyze the differences between them to deduce the reasons for the manipulation. Are you ready?
Finally! Let's reflect: Compare with current affairs. Do you think that press freedom is currently in danger in some parts of the world ? Before answering, look at the maps that we provide.
