After graduation I attended SDSU and graduated with a degree in Geography in 1975. I moved on to the University of Alberta to complete a M.Sc. in Geography (water resources). In an effort to avoid jumping into the workforce, I attended LSU in Baton Rouge and completed course work for the Ph.D. I started working for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in Baton Rouge in 1978.
Sandra and I met at LSU in 1978, and after a couple of short moves we were married in Bismarck in 1984. Although we planned on spending 2-3 years in Bismarck and then moving with the USGS we ended up making Bismarck our home. Sandra retired from the National Weather Service in 2012, and I retired from the USGS in 2015.
We have two children and two grandchildren. Rachel is a MD in family practice and obstetrics at Sanford Clinic in Jamestown ND. Her husband (Ryan) is a partner in a large family farming operation just west of Jamestown. Rachel and Ryan have two children; Olive is 5 and Hazel is 2.
Our youngest, Mark just graduated from medical school in May of this year. He is doing a transition residency at Sanford in Fargo. He hopes to be a radiologist.
We keep busy with the grandchildren and spending time at our cabin in the Black Hills. Also, we have taken several trips to Europe.
Wishing all my classmates the best.
