After graduation I attended Dunwoody Technical College in Minneapolis. I married my high school sweetheart, Sheryl Albers from Harrisburg, in 1973. The timing was just right, and I started the Biomedical and Technical Services department at Sioux Valley Hospital a year later. I was the lone service provider there for about 6 months before I started hiring additional help. Originally under the maintenance department, it became its own department when we reached 10 employees about 10 years later. About that time, I got my Bachelor's in Business. We also provided medical equipment service for the regional hospitals and clinics that were associated with Sioux Valley/Sanford Health. I had a great career with Sioux Valley/Sanford for 40 years, managing 25 staff. I was very active in the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) serving as Administrative VP for the National Society of Biomedical Equipment Technicians under AAMI and served several years on AAMI’s strategic planning committee. In 2014 Sanford outsourced my department and our sister department in N.D. to GE Healthcare. That turned out great too. GE hired me on as Manager of Clinical Engineering and Service Delivery Leader and expanded my responsibilities to include managing the service of all the imaging equipment under GE in South Dakota, SW Minnesota, NW Iowa, and part of Northern Nebraska. I retired in 2019 with 37 direct reports; the very best team a person could ever hope for.
My wife Sheryl passed away from Acute Myeloid Leukemia in 2019 after 46 wonderful years of marriage. We had a great marriage, lots of fun with friends and family camping, fishing, and just hanging out. We had two wonderful children, DenYelle and Adam. Both are in Sioux Falls and gave us four grandchildren (two each) who are absolutely the joy of my life! Then last year I reconnected with and started dating an acquaintance whom I hadn’t seen in over 40 years. She still works at the Avera Heart Hospital in the Cardiac Cath Lab.
I enjoy hunting, fishing, camping, my kids and grandchildren, and noodling around a little bit with a guitar (not very good). I spent many of my hunting years hunting out in western SD with Steve Madsen, his father, and eventually our sons.
I’m really looking forward to seeing you all soon.
