Dr. McConville grew up on a farm in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
He took a strong work ethic from his upbringing to Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska, and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in Biology.
Dr. McConville stayed at Creighton for medical school on a military Health Professions Scholarship before completing an internship in general surgery at the David Grant U.S. Air Force Medical Center in Fairfield, California.
After internship, Dr. McConville began his active-duty commitment to the Air Force as a flight surgeon in Panama City, Panama. It was there that he met his wife and best friend, Christina.
The two would move to Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho, for the duration of Dr. McConville’s service commitment. During this time, he also served overseas in Saudi Arabia during the Iran-Iraq War.
In 1983, the McConville’s moved to Winston Salem, where Dr. McConville would train in anesthesiology and complete a cardiac anesthesia fellowship at Wake Forest University School of Medicine.
He considers himself fortunate to have then joined a great hospital, Forsyth Medical Center, and what he describes as an egalitarian anesthesia practice in Piedmont Triad Anesthesia (PTA). Dr. McConville says he has thoroughly enjoyed providing patient care for 35 years and counting.
Dr. McConville and Chris have two sons — Patrick, who is married to Lauren, and Michael, who is married to Kate — plus five wonderful grandchildren that keep them busy on the weekends. As he approaches retirement, Dr. McConville's goal is to “read every good book in the library” and help instill in his grandchildren a lifelong love of learning and reading.
