2020 - Fr. Gregg (nicely aged)
1981 - Fr. Gregg (a little younger!)
I graduated from St John's University, Collegeville, MN and was a religious education director in Wadena, MN (1 yr), then taught Social Studies at Roncalli High School in Aberdeen (1yr).
I entered major seminary at St. John's, Collegeville, MN and was ordained in 1981 for the Diocese of Sioux Falls. Our seminary class spent a semester in Israel, where we lived in Ein Kerem, the birthplace of St. John the Baptist. My favorite class was "Israel in Context', which meant we traveled to many of the holy sites by bus.
I was an associate priest under three pastors. I was made a pastor in 1985, mostly having two to three parishes in each assignment. Since ordination I have served 39 parishes including champlaincy assignments, traveling from parish to parish between 25 to 30 thousand miles a year.
I was privileged to spend a three month sabbatical in Rome [Fr. Mike Mulloy was on the same sabbatical]. We concelebrated Mass with Pope St. John Paul II in his small private chapel. I have also had the opportunity spend time in Lourdes.
Both of my parents have passed away and now, as one of my priest friends has said, I am an orphan.
I hope to retire in 2023 and move to "God's Country", the Black Hills.
