What kinds of awards does the NVHSEF offer?

Types of Awards

The North Vancouver High School Education Foundation offers three types of awards to students graduating from Grade 12 in North Vancouver high schools:

  1. academic scholarships,
  2. career scholarships, and
  3. bursaries.

Academic scholarships are offered to students who are planning post-secondary education leading to a degree. To be selected for an academic scholarship, a student must have an outstanding academic record.

Career scholarships are offered to students who have majored in applied skills, fine arts, or trades training and are planning post-secondary education leading to a diploma or a certificate (but not to a university degree) at a government-approved technical or vocational institute, college, school, or university. To be selected for a career training scholarship, a student must have achieved very good marks in at least five career training courses in Grades 10-12, of which at least two must be numbered 12.

Bursaries are offered to students who are planning post-secondary education leading to a diploma, a certificate, or a university degree and would find it difficult or impossible to continue their education without financial help. To be selected for a bursary, a student must have good marks in courses which are relevant to his or her educational plans.

To be selected for any of the Foundation's awards, a student must also

  1. have contributed significantly to the school or the community; for example through volunteer service, tutoring, family commitments, interpersonal relationships, or participation in social events.
  2. have displayed initiative or leadership; for example in academics, arts, vocational training, extracurricular activities, athletics, work experience, or the surmounting of a significant linguistic, physical, familial, mental, emotional, cultural, or economic obstacle.
