Jo Dikta Hai Wo Bikta Hai | Silkscreen on paper | 16' X 11.5"
Artist's note
Silkscreen is my most used technique in almost all my work since 2001. The vibrancy of colour and it can be used in the most experimental mode.
The surface I work on is a theatrical stage. I am fascinated with a hybrid mix of styles - from impressionist to surrealist, classical to folk, Graphic techniques, digital to miniatures.
The essence of my practice is a juxtaposition of the old and the new, classical and contemporary; the images I retrace are props or local elements that inspire me, morphed into characters without any complexity or connection to their original form. Various techniques layer my works, the subject, and the content presenting the current with the past, fusing traditional, woodblock print, etching, silkscreen, and digital, merging facets of art history using metal, terracotta, paper, gouache, digital, silver and gold, reminiscent of different epochs. My inspirations find their roots around the world, seeping into my work. To me, the universe appears without borders, no sharp edges or great walls that divide the countries, culture stemming from history, tradition, beliefs, spiritualism to popular advertisements.
