Artist's note
The COVID-19 pandemic has deeply influenced migration, prompting people to explore a myriad of experiences and challenges. From the isolation and uncertainty faced by migrants during lockdowns to the contributions of frontline workers, many of whom are migrants themselves, this artwork has captured the multifaceted impact of the pandemic on displaced populations. Virtual migrations and digital art have emerged as mediums to reflect on the importance of technology in maintaining connections across borders, while artwork has also shed light on the exacerbated humanitarian crises in refugee camps and detention centers. Moreover, the pandemic has prompted reflections on the concept of home, belonging, and environmental migration, with artwork conveying messages of resilience, solidarity, and hope amidst adversity. Overall, this migration-themed artwork serves as a poignant reminder of the interconnectedness of human experiences and the enduring strength of migrant communities.
