Let the sun shine!
It was great to finally enjoy a sunshine-y day!
In Science we discussed Forces again, but this time it was all about "Simple Machines". Simple Machines are things that when a force is applied to it , it helps us to do a job better and faster. They usually have little to no moving parts. When the students put on their thinking caps about the word 'machine', most thought of things that plug in or have batteries. They were able to see that a wedge (like a ramp), wheels and axles, screws, corkscrews, tweezers, etc. all help us to do a job with ease. We are so grateful that God made people smart enough to invent these items to make our lives easier!
In History, we learned about how President Franklin D. Roosevelt had polio, but was loved so much as a leader, that he was elected a few times! He gave much needed hope during the Great Depression. We also learned that many families fled areas like Oklahoma to where they could find work (in California) as migrant farm workers. The camps that were set up during that time became little communities. We 'moved' outside to where we could find 'work' and 'picked' some fruit of our own. A couple of us were able to find all the different kinds of fruit!
In our bible verse, Jesus teaches us that every good thing comes from above, and we look to Him for what is good and pleasing to HIs Father.
In IEW, we copied down some vocabulary words that focused on our work today. Then, because it is the end of the Read-a-Thon, we spent the last 30 mins of the day reading books. The classroom had plenty of books for us to choose from and Mrs. Rivera read to us if we chose. Bible stories are always the best!
