We began our last week of the semester with some practicing of copying/writing some of the concepts we'd be learning.

In Science, we focused on "Solutions": two or more substances that can dissolve. We discovered that when you add salt to water, it looks like you can't separate them, but the water can evaporate, and leave behind the salt! You can even eat that salt, and that means we will always have enough salt because there's so much in the ocean. We recalled how when ocean water dries on our skin, there's a white film left behind, and that's salt! We mixed sugar into water and a Mio flavoring and we watched it disperse enough to make all the water now taste the same, and those items, for sure, can't be separated.

In History, we learned how Abraham Lincoln grew up in a log cabin, reading by firelight, became a lawyer, and then became our 16th president. He also gave a great speech and declared yucky slavery to be illegal. People in the South weren't too happy about that, so they had to fight about it in the Civil War, and one man was so angry about it, he killed Lincoln. That was a very sad day indeed, as so many people loved him. He's now so famous that his face is on a penny and a five dollar bill. We made a craft of Lincoln.

In IEW, we finished copying our summary of a story and drew a picture of it. We circled all the nouns in it. We will focus on more nouns and verbs next week.
