Today was a joyful day!
Thank you to Emma's mom for coming to help today. It was a another cold, rainy day, but we made the best of it by beginning the day with thoughts of Jesus! We discussed our bible verse, "When I am afraid, I place my trust in you." Psalm 56:3. We prayed to ask Jesus to take away our fears and worries and we will always place our trust in Him. We then read one of Mrs. Rivera's favorite books to read during Lent: The Tale of Three Trees. This story shares with us that we don't know God's plan for our lives, but we need to trust He will work miracles.
In Science, we saw the power of Forces on different shapes of paper! Civil engineers plan out the way buildings are constructed and test materials to see what can hold the most weight. We put on our thinking caps and guessed if the rectangular prism, triangular prism or the cylinder made out of just paper, would hold the weight of the coloring books we put on them. Would you believe the cylinder could hold 13?? It was an enjoyable activity for sure.
In History, we discussed how times were surely difficult after World War II, especially in Germany. Some people had no homes to go back to, their businesses were bombed out ruins. The United States' citizens learned that people were desperate for food and other necessities of life and sent CARE packages to the needy citizens. People were overjoyed to receive them and began to think that the US was one of the most generous countries in the world! We put together our own pretend "CARE" package with items we thought they would enjoy from our classroom: food items from the kitchen, a doll for a young girl, a toy car for a young boy. Oh the joy we are sure they experienced when those packages arrived! We learned that the CARE (Cooperative from American Remittances to Europe) organization continues to this day. As Christians, we are called to help our brothers and sisters, just as Christ would. They will know we are Christians by our love, so how can we help others?
Mrs. Rivera needed to leave early today for a doctor's appointment, so we are happy that Ms. Cassie (new teacher from Thursday's PreK/K class) could step in. Ms. Cassie shared with the students the stories in the Beginner's Bible from Jesus' entry into Jerusalem with the waving of palms, the Last Supper, Praying in the Garden, Before Pontius Pilate, to the Crucifixion. The students practiced retelling these stories with the flannel stories Mrs. Rivera has. The students were dismissed early to participate in the Ice Cream party for doing well in raising funds for the Read-a-Thon!
