We began our day with lots of love for Jesus!
I started with our bible verse for the day: "Teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you." Matthew 28:20 We discussed who Jesus was directing this towards: his apostles, and then they went out and taught about Jesus to everyone they met, and then His message to be proclaimed throughout the ages and that's why Mrs. Rivera and all our parents proclaim it to their children. What did He 'command' us to do? We talked about the Ten Commandments and the two most important commandments of all. We prayed and began our day on a great note!
In Science, we discussed Forces and the friction that prevents things from moving or sliding easily. We tried to slide a bar of soap without water and when we did add water, wheee! We learned how difficult it is to move a chair across carpet compared to the ease of a tile floor. We tried to roll different items down a 'ramp' that had a washcloth, felt, and sandpaper and saw how friction played a part in each roll. We discussed how smart it is to put rubber on the bottom of shoes that help us not to slide, but when we take off those shoes...watch how our socks help us to sliiide across the tile floor!
In History we reviewed all the sad parts of US history: slavery, child labor, the depression, etc. Then we added another sad one: World War II. The bombing of Pearl Harbor sent us into a war we didn't want to join, but we had to defend ourselves. The US was helpful in ending the ugliness that was taking place in Europe that Hitler began. Lots of people died, but we learned that sometimes you can't avoid that. We pray for all those who loved our country enough to defend it.
In IEW, we focused on nouns and verbs again. We played a game of hunting for the letters to spell out a certain noun or verb and deciding where to put it: the noun or the verb table. It challenged our brains to look for the letters, put them in the correct order, and work with our partners to do this. We discovered some of us enjoy a little competition, and some do not. Then we wrote out sentences using different nouns at the ends of each one. It was great practice!
