Wow! What a great day it was to celebrate all we have to be grateful for.
We began our day looking cute as some students dressed for our 80s themed day.
We also had fun playing (oops, I mean "experimenting" ;) ) with MAGNETS! It's so awesome to guess what they will attract to, and then finding out what they do/don't attract to. Did you know that they will only attract a metal if it has iron in it? They were a little fooled when they all thought the magnets wouldn't attract to little plastic discs that Mrs. Rivera had, only to find out that the discs had a tiny bit of metal on the outer ridge.
The Pilgrims First Thanksgiving was a book full of more than just Pilgrim smiles and turkeys. No, the Pilgrims endured so many struggles and heartache, losing loved ones to disease on the trip over on the Mayflower and the bitter cold of the first winter. No McDonald's or nice warm already-built homes were waiting for them when they arrived. The struggle was real. We learned that the Pilgrim children all had jobs like sitting all day turning the turkey over the fire, or finding pine needles to make into a mattress. The schooling they had was pretty much learning how to hunt and cook. But they were grateful for Sundays where they learned all about Jesus and His loving, saving grace. They were definitely ready for the 3-day celebration (with their new friends the native Americans) that Thanksgiving ended up being. We made placemats after writing down many things we are all grateful for on the turkey feathers. They were encouraged to try to read the prayer on the placemat before their meal.
Seeing so many families come together to enjoy the potluck was beautiful. If you have any pictures from Tuesday, please send them my way and I'll post them here.
Have a blessed Thanksgiving with your families and may our Lord continue to bless you all abundantly! :)
Using magnets to make the paper clip dance around the paper was fun!
