TERM 3
Facing problems dealing with motivation and engagement? Studies have shown that when students are given the autonomy of choice, they are more intrinsically motivated to learn. This workshop will focus on the use of Differentiated Instruction and Self-Determination Theory to improve the motivation and engagement of students in a common curriculum differentiated by ability for a lower secondary classroom. The lesson package shared at this workshop is for use in a Secondary 1 Music classroom, through the hands-on practical lessons on playing the ukulele and percussion that incorporate a student’s voice into classroom practice and evaluation. Students are given the autonomy of choice in their groupings and pace of learning based on the stipulated success criteria and varied resources.

Tacitly, this is not music therapy although it draws the activities and routines heavily from the field.
