TERM 3
The pandemic has accelerated the use of blended modes of learning, including the shift from live to online lectures in Junior Colleges. To promote greater retention, understanding and application, the St. Andrews Junior College General Paper department has created bite-sized video lectures on the school's website, followed by quizzes for students to test their understanding. This workshop will focus on helping participants to appreciate the efficacy of using online quizzes, as well as how to design effective quiz questions and formats as assessments for learning which serve as a bridge between online and physical classrooms. Participants will learn how online quizzes may enhance students’ thinking skills and dispositions, including the transfer of skills and development of metacognition.

TERM 2
Learners and teachers recognise the importance of developing critical and inventive thinking (CIT) capacities for school and life beyond it. Yet, getting learners excited about building these higher-order skills can be difficult if the endeavour is seen as inaccessible or, through paper-and-pen activities, reminiscent of conventional assessment. Our team has created an immersive, interactive online game, which places learners in ethical dilemmas where they weigh different perspectives, make choices, and provide justification. We hope to share, through hands-on activities, how this approach might allow teachers to flexibly adapt the game across different topical concerns to support learners’ iterative application of CIT skills to deepen their understanding of issues and concepts.
