TERM 3
The rise of Blended Learning has led to various innovative, interactive and immersive strategies, one of which is the increased gamification of learning. Gamification can help increase student engagement and merge online and face-to-face teaching.
One way to gamify learning is to create a digital escape room, where students are to escape a carefully crafted Google form by applying their content-specific knowledge together with their problem-solving skills to answer questions. This can elevate formative assessment strategies and pave the way for novel Blended Learning opportunities. In this workshop, participants will learn to devise and implement a virtual escape room lesson.

To encourage thinking in the Humanities, teachers from Paya Lebar Methodist Girls’ School (Secondary) leverage technology on Google and other platforms to cultivate thinking as a habit. Humanities thinking is a complex process that requires deeper analysis of knowledge, concepts and perspectives. Through thinking routines, students are encouraged to exercise thinking explicitly with purpose and context, and make connections to deepen understanding. The teachers employ thinking routines such as Chalk Talk, Connect-Extend-Challenge, Question Matrix and Zoom In in the teaching of Social Studies, historical concepts and content using tech tools. This workshop will demonstrate the e-pedagogy strategies within the unit plans for the Lower Secondary History, Upper Secondary History and Social Studies curricula.
