Merrows are little-known seafolk that live in isolated pockets, thought to be variants of merfolk. Most merrows prefer isolation to the company of others, taking on a mythical or legendary role in the surrounding area.
Kessixian merrows live in isolated pods in the Iksandi sea, rarely coming into contact with other pods since they prefer to stay near land. Most merrows here live on the Azohican coast, navigating the swamps and brackish waters. Merrows prefer to keep a close group of around 5-10 others, both Ahuatl and merrow. Some merrows choose to live in the coastal cities of the northern Azohican people, benefited by the canal system and waterside markets. Since merrows can switch between legs and tail, living in villages near water is easy for them to adapt to, and there are many Ahuatl on the western coasts of the Iksandi sea that carry some merrow genes. Some isolated pods have made their way through the system of rivers to live alongside the southern Azohican folk, hunting and fishing along the shores and trading with the people for medicines and decorative things.
The merrows that live in the deep Sianic lakes are isolated and live in groups of 2-3. They are among the larger seafolk, around the same size as northern sirens. They rarely surface, living in underground caves and nests and hunting and fishing in the lakes. When they do go ashore, they wander around lakeside villages, trading fish and underwater plants for whatever they find interesting. Many Sianic merrows have large collections of metalwork and sculpture. Occasionally, merrows will find a landfolk that interests them and leave strange gifts ranging from fish skeletons to intricate nets and parts of their collection.
