Wrestling Room Layout
The numbers depict locations on the mat where wrestling partners can or typically practice. Live wrestling will typically be limited to 9 pairs in order to lessen impacts with other wrestlers such as when in the standing "neutral" position. There is less likelihood of physical impacts when in the top/bottom "referee" position. Coaches have additional ways to increase numbers such as having one half of the room do wall sits, toe raisers, or squats while the other half drills moves, however, this is generally not favored as it lessens the number of repetitions athletes get on technique.
If slim mats are in place, the red asterisks (*) shows additionally areas to squeeze wrestler pairs.
