History
Lightridge High School completed construction and opened in September 2020 during the COVID pandemic period. Although fall sports were delayed to the spring 2021, a shortened winter wrestling season was held between December 15, 2020 and February 20, 2021. Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) maintained weekly competitions with local schools followed by Regions and States. Lightridge did not have a senior class but did in fact recruit thirteen wrestling participants nicknamed "the dirty dozen" to complete a full season and successfully sent a wrestler to the Virginia State Championships ultimately obtaining a 5th place finish to become the school's very first state placer in school history. The school built a dedicated wrestling room for practices, purchased two regulation sized mats, and embarked onto efforts to build a world class program with high level instruction and support thanks to the Athletic Department and staff who invested hundreds of hours. The team filled a full 14-man line-up for the first time in season 2022-2023 with a roster of 30-plus athletes and tied long-time established Dulles District Conference teams in head-to-head dual team events thereby showing positive growth projections.
