History
Lightridge High School completed construction and opened in September 2020 during the COVID pandemic period. Although fall sports were delayed to the spring 2021, a shortened winter wrestling season was held between December 15, 2020 and February 20, 2021. Loudoun County Public Schools (LCPS) maintained weekly competitions with local schools followed by Regions and States. Lightridge did not have a senior class but did in fact recruit thirteen wrestling participants nicknamed "the dirty dozen" to complete a full season. Twelve athletes completed the season in good standing. The team successfully advanced one athlete to the Virginia State Championships ultimately finishing in fifth place to become the school's very first state placer in school history. The school built a dedicated wrestling room for practices, purchased two regulation sized mats, and embarked onto efforts to build a world class program. The team filled a full 14-man line-up for the first time in season 2022-2023 with a roster of 30-plus athletes and tied long-time established Dulles District Conference teams in head-to-head dual team events thereby showing positive growth projections. As of the 2024-2025 season, the team grew to a size comprised of 57 athletes. During the school sports history between February 2021 and February 2025, two boys and one girl placed at the VA States championships.
