Gimbals use a chip containing gyroscopes and accelerometers to measure the pitch (up and down movement), roll (side to side movement), and Yaw (right to left movement) to adjust motorized arms to keep a camera level. Most modern cameras will adjust the image based on internal gimbals. Often the effect of the camera's gimbal still records bouncing videos and unsteady still images. I purchased FeiyuTech SCORP Mini 3 Pro Camera Gimbal with AI Tracker in March 2026. The unit has a detachable remote control, and a payload of 4.4lbs. It comes with many quick-connect adaptors allow me to connect my cellphone, action camera and Nikon cameras and cemented my reason to purchase.
The Scorp mini 3 pro dimensions are 8"D x 6" W x 12" H in working mode and 9" D x 2" W x 9.5" tall in the stowed mode. The weight is 2 lbs.
The smart display handle is detectable for 40 ft remote control.
Artificial intelligence provides instant tracing of a subject. It will track subjects within a 60 ft radius of the gimbal. Simple and gesture of ok starts and thumbs opposite stop it. When giving the singnal your face must be sentered on the camera, hands can not be wearing glove and the signal must be assertive gesture. A frame with double L with the hands shows where to frame the camera. Showing the palm of your hand will activate the shutter if the camera is linked to the gimbal via Bluetooth. Two thumbs up will deactivate tracking.

The setup is simple but the instructions make it sound complicated. The whole idea is to balance the camera so the gimbal motors do not need to work so hard. It is probably not a big deal for small light weight cameras, but a must for large cameras. It will improve motor response, reduces stress and overheating. It can be a one and done process if you use the same camera on the gimbal every time. I plan to use my Akaso Brave 8 lite on my camera so it is easiest to just keep the camera mounted to the gimbal.
Print the owners manual and follow instructions.
Charge gimbal before using. Plug near handle and lcd on remote show status.

Attach camera to holder. This is probaly the hardest part. You want to select the correct holder for your camera and if mounted landscape or portrait.
Attach gimbal to a tripod (either table top or large standing).
Attach camera and holder to gimbal and lock the holder down. The camera faces away and should look like it is ready to use.
Hold the camera and unlock the top gimbal arm using the latch near the joint.
Turn the camera so the lens is pointing up.
Loosen the mount bracket and adjust it so the camera's center of gravity is over the arm and the camera stops falling over.
Lock the mount bracket and top gimbal arm.
Hold the camera and unlock the middle gimbal arm using the latch near the joint.
Loosen the mount bracket and adjust it so the camera's center of gravity is over the arm and the camera stops side to side.
Lock the mount bracket and middle gimbal arm.
Hold the camera and unlock the lowest gimbal arm using the latch near the joint.
Pickup gimbal and swivel handle. If the camera flops in one direction then loosen bracket near the lowest joint and adjust to so the center of gravity is over the lowest joint.
Set the tripod/gimbal on a level hard surface, then unlock all the gimbal joints.
The camera should not flop around if it does, adjust centers of camera's center of gravity.
Turn on the gimbal and the camera will move into ready position.
Move menu right and clock on motor power. Select the auto tune.
Gimbal now ready to use.
Depending on the camera connect the usb power ports to the camera port on the gimbal. This provide both power to the camera and allow the joystick controller to control the camera. Do not worry about lack of link to camera and the gimbal. My Brave 8 lite does not connect but the gimbal worked great.
Unlock all the gimbal joints starting with upper joint and working down.
Check to make sure all gimbals are free.
Turn on the gimbal.
Camera will move into position.
Controlling gimbal joints.
Press PF button to choose what type of correction. Just use PF for stationary applications or FTF for moving applications .
Pan = grip twist right/left (i.e.. compass needle) Tilt = grip leans forward/backward Roll = grip rotates (i.e. second hand of clock)
PF: Pan follow, only the pan axis follows the movement grip
PTF: Pan and tilt follow, where both the pan and tilt axes follow the grip movement, but roll axis does not.
FPV: Pan, tilt and roll follow, where all 3 axes follow the grip movement.
Lock: All 3 axes do not follow the grip movement, gimbal keeps the direction of the camera fixed.
FFW: Flash follow, where all 3 axes follow the movement grip in high follow speed.
Full: allows selective on/off of the gimbal joints.
Follow me commands using hands
The gimbal used a visual camera to with AI facial recognition to tract the subjects movement. Ducking behind a tree/building or turn your face away from the camera cause it looses tracks of your location and stop tracking. I found 20 feet or less radius to be the working distance with the ideal distance of less than 10 feet. Remove gloves first and signs must be assertive.
Gesture of ok starts
Two thumbs opposite stop it.
A frame with double L with the hands shows where to frame the camera.
Palm of your hands will activate the shutter if the camera is linked to the gimbal via Bluetooth.
Two thumbs up will deactivate tracking.
Trigger button
One tap: Face tracking
Two tap: Recenter (in non-selfie mode) / Selfie recenter (in selfie mode)
Three tap: Enter/Exit selfie mode (Pan axis turn 180° )
Press and hold: Lock mode (Release to exit)
Blue power buttons on side of remote
Long press: Power on/off when remote attached
Power off single tap will display battery level.
One tap:
Lock/Unlock screen (In home page)
Return to home page (In other pages)
Two tap: Enter FFW mode
Multifunction knob near grip.
Set knob function first by long press blue button below knob to move between roll, tilt, and pan joints.
Twist knob to move the joint.
Other functions are available read instructions.
When finished Open the tripod, and set gimbal on a flat-hard surface
Turn off
Engage gimbal locks from bottom up.
Remove action camera from frame. Download the videos
Put the gimbal, camera and camera remote on the charger.
Put the camera back into the frame and store everything in the storage box.
Follow-Me Tracking looses track easily because it relies on AI facial recognition to know where to move the camera. Remove gloves before making a sign to start and stop tracking. Still learning.
The Brave 8 lite does not connect to the gimbal via bluetooth or power supply. High end action camera will conect but not less expence Akaso units. Not a deal breaker but would have been nice.
The gimbal exceeds my expectations and stabilizes videos generated by my action camera. For that alone I would buy again.
