Super wet snow just plugs my Cub Cadet Snow Blower. Our snow often comes as a result of a warm front passing over colder air where it snows then followed by rain. The result is a slushy mess. I really wanted a small plow when I bought the Cub Cadet but they were not available. I started to look at a plow attachment for either my snow blower or zero turn mower in 2023. I chose a Thrower Blade mounted in front of my snow blower to plow snow rather than blow when snow is heavy and slushy. The Thrower Blade was purchased January 2025.
The Thrower Blade fits 22 to 32" snow blowers. The cost is $250 with shipping. They have a great video showing how to install. The kits comes with "everything you need to install" but recommend:
1/2" drill because the drill bit provided was bigger than my 3/8" drill.
1/4 drill bit for a pilot hole
Two 7.5" 2x4 scraps to act as a height gauge and a straight edge to draw a line to mark the height of the holes.
Marking pen to draw the hole height line and mark hole locations.
10x magnifying glass to read instructions. Just because you can print 3pt does not mean I can read it. Manual has tons of white space and blank space but it was not used.
17mm socket because the provided wrench is rinky dink at best.
Spacer washers if your the sides of your snow blower is not flat. Contact them for free free spacer washers and longer bolts if they are needed.
Thankfully there were no installation surprises.
The amount of snow ranged from 1 to 2" and was super sticky and slushy. The blade added enough weight I used the blower controls to move/turn. The blade was amazing. It plowed through pure slush where the drive enters the highway and even snow in standing water. I used it on a gravel drive and grass paths down to the green house (+1,000 ft) and to bird feeder and propane tank. Not a lot of snow but impressed with its abilities. A good investment given we get lots of wet/slushy snow. See my testing video on YouTube at https://youtu.be/YnSjb5OC-IE
Throw Blade installed on front of snow blower.
View after using the Thrower Blade set high to reduce scraping the gravel from the drive.
Liked the quality and locking nuts for the bolts.
Liked the packing and shipping protection.
Manual needed larger print.
Supplied drill bit should have fit a 3/8" drill.
Spacers should have been included in the box.
Despite minor issues the blade was easy to install.
I recommend the Thrower Blade and wonder why I delayed the purchase.
Blade still working and in use for 60% of my removal tasks. Still learning its full use range. Found it will plow 12" snow, replaced most of my shovel work, has an additive advantage to alternate passes between blade and blower, and when in doubt use the blade. It has problems plowing through compacted snow drifts and in plowing deep snow tends to pile up in front of blade rather than pushed to side. In my book it has paid for itself in reduce hassles of snow removal and increased fun factor.
