Initially, I used the truck bed to haul the lawn care power and hand tools. I was just mowing and few additional tools were necessary. As the season changed so did my need to carry more tools. The tools would often get buried under branches in the back of the truck. I found a need to reserve the truck bed for branches and look at a rack system for the trailer. Commercial racks for power tools are available but did not work for most of my Black and Decker 20v tools. The rack needs to be flexible for several tools as the season and type of work changes, theft resistant and easy to use.
Building materials are a 2x4 by 8' for uprights and a crossmember, a 2x6 by 30" for second crossmember and scrap PVC pipe for tool holders. The rack uprights are 36" tall. The PVC holders are secured to rack with short deck screws. A 7 ft 5mm (1/4") steel cable and a keyed padlock provides passive tool security. It is not 100% theft proof but nothing is anymore. Short 1/4" bungee cords are used to hold tools on the rack when being transported on Idaho's rough country roads and highways.
