I assumed this would be my camera for life. It had a nice telephoto range (50x optical zoom (24-1200 mm)) plus digital zoom, optical image stabilizer and 12.1 mp. The big selling point was the 0.19 second autofocus and 0.25 second autofocus plus shoot time. I was just missing too many shots with the Canon 640. It fit most of my needs when I ordered it on December 22, 2012. The order price was $400 and 2019 used price is $225. I had some basic assumptions that were never met. Everything has a GPS, even a cheap point and shoot for work had it. I assumed the SX50 would have one or could add one. GPS chips were about $10 so not an expensive add on. I was bummed it did not have a GPS and an add on was not available. It took great photos but advances in electronics and optics happened.
Buy an extra battery for backup. It will happen.
Use basic focus length math when zooming +17 ft from object. Otherwise autofocus has problems.
