I would like to easily move a utility trailer without hitching to the truck or flexing muscles.
Ok the advertisement read: The ideal trailer dolly. Move your small trailer easily and safely with this heavy duty trailer dolly. A 600 lb. Trailer Dolly for less than $70. They showed a video of moving a travel trailer.
The tongue weight of my 6x10 ft utility trailer is about 70 lbs. Do I need a heavy duty trailer dolly and where do I store it when not in use? I have a hand truck to help move stuff so why not use it. After viewing a few youtube videos this is my final design.
I am not going to over describe the unit because a picture is worth a 1000 words (see below). The build is simple and made from scrap 2x6" knot free pine. A 1" slot was cut at the end of the 2x6 for placement into the hand truck handle under the first brace. A 3/8" groove was crosscut into the 2x6 where it came in contact with the lift plate of the hand truck. I used a 3/4" pipe flange with short pipe attached as trailer ball. The pipe is covered with a scrap piece of 1" electrical pipe but anything will work (tape, plastic water pipe, or old sock). The dolly is pinned to the back of the hand truck using a 1/4" bolt should it pop out of the lift plate groove.
Dolly failed initial use tests because uneven and sloped ground. I found it easier just to keep trailer hitched to truck and sharpen my backup skills. Back to drawing board.

Adding a motor to the trailer trolley would allow moving across uneven ground and longer distances. Consulting YouTube showed several riding lawn mowers with rear mounted ball hitches. My Cub Cadet ZTS1 46" zero-turn came with a trailer hitch plate for rear mounting. A few videos showed front mount hitch plates but the design required welded mounts and none were on a zero-turn mower.
A Universal Zero Turn Mower Trailer Hitch - Heavy Duty 3/16'' Thick and Rugged Steel - 3/4'' Trailer Hitch Mount was ordered from Amazon. The best option for mounting proved to be to used the predrilled holes for front weigh that comes with the bagger system. A 1 inch thick-walled square tube was cut to fit between the holes. The predrilled holes in the mower were enlarged to 3/8". Holes (3/8") were drilled in square tube to match the holes in the mower and hitch plate offset to use one of the predrilled holes in the mower. Washers were used as a spacer between the mower and square rod to protect the weld holding the leveling adjustment plate. Bolts were torqued to 90lbs using an impact driver.
