It started with our local "has everything hardware" store having a clearance sale with a 10 gallon mixing tub on sale for $5. I thought it would make a great ice fishing sled, but it really did not meet my ice fishing needs after trying it a couple of times. I started to use it as an evaporation tray for safe handling of waste water from washing paint brushes as an alternative to pouring it down drain or on soil. During the summer the tray dries out enough to remove the liner and dispose in household trash.
I purchased two more tubs from Home Depot for $8. I use them to mix greenhouse soil and cement/pottery plaster.
Mixing tub for potting soil.
The tub size is listed as medium 10 gallons and measures 28" L x 20" W x 6" H. The tub is made from 100% recycled plastic resin and is durable and flexible. It has a smooth surface with angled edges and rounded corners for easy cleaning.
The tub's flexibility makes them feel flimsy.
They work great for holding and mixing but not carrying around much weight.
Using the tub as an evaporation tray works but winter evaporation is too slow to handle much waste water from brush washing. Summer is when the tray dries out.
