Matthew 22:15-16
Questioning Truth
15 Then the Pharisees went out and laid plans to trap him in his words. 16 They sent their disciples to him along with the Herodians. “Teacher,” they said, “we know that you are a man of integrity and that you teach the way of God in accordance with the truth. You aren’t swayed by others, because you pay no attention to who they are.
John 4:4-9
Jesus and the Samaritan Woman
4 Now he had to go through Samaria. 5 So he came to a town in Samaria called Sychar, near the plot of ground Jacob had given to his son Joseph. 6 Jacob’s well was there, and Jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well. It was about noon.
7 When a Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink?” 8 (His disciples had gone into the town to buy food.)
9 The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans.)
John 14:6
Truth
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.
Psalms 31:5 (KJV)
God of Truth
5 Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O Lord God of truth.
John 16:13
Guided by Truth
13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth.
The Pharisees disciples told Jesus that He is a Man of integrity, and He teaches in the way of God, and His teachings are in accordance with the Truth...Jesus is not swayed by others, when He speaks the Truth and about the Truth, because Truth is exclusive...Everything said and written is not the Truth...If everything is Truth, then nothing is false, and everyone or almost everyone has heard a lie or read something that is false or a falsehood...
I think God wants us to question Him...He wants us to seek Him, and our questions are a way of seeking Him...In the Book of Job, Job had many questions for God...How we question Him is another story...I do not think He wants us to be continually trying to trap Him or anybody else, as we search for the Truth and seek Him, as the Pharisees did here...
Truth is truth...The things said by Jesus are either true or not true...But our own personal thinking can get in the way of truth...Everyone has a personal belief system that is unique to them (and very personal to them)...It affects our behavior and how we feel everyday...It also affects and filters out what we believe and what we do not want to believe in...It also affects how we react to things in the world...Our personal belief system is always influencing how we think (our thoughts), what we value, and how we behave...But our personal belief system is not always searching and finding the truth...Our belief system was developed quite a bit when we were very young, and still growing in our teens...The truth is -we should believe in things really, only because they are true...Why else believe, in anything?...Why should we believe in lies and things that are false?...
We also can be swayed by another's personal beliefs, if they (say or write something that would) change what we were believing in and do it convincingly, our belief system changes...One example of a belief, during the times of the New Testament, Rabbi's were not to teach to women...Women were considered a lower class than men... Samaritan women were an even lower class than Jewish women...Jewish men and women were not to drink from the same drinking glasses or drinking ups as Samaritans...Drinking from their glasses would make them unclean...But Jesus, who is Divine, is not swayed by others personal belief systems...He is swayed and persuaded only by the Truth...
Truth cannot be swayed by others...Truth is not swayed by time...Because Truth is exclusive and has no age limit...A truth two thousand years ago, is the same fact and truth today...Jesus is the very Spirit of Truth...He is guided and by and has committed His eternal life to His Father, our LORD and God of Truth...
