Matthew 10:32-42
Jesus Talking about Himself
32 “Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. 33 But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven.
34 “Do not suppose that I have come to bring peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35 For I have come to turn
“‘a man against his father,
a daughter against her mother,
a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law—
36 a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’
37 “Anyone who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.38 Whoever does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me.39 Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it.
40 “Anyone who welcomes you welcomes me, and anyone who welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. 41 Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward. 42 And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is my disciple, truly I tell you, that person will certainly not lose their reward.”
John 14:1
Jesus said Believe in God, and Believe also in Him
1 Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me.
Some people do not believe that Jesus is God in the flesh...They do not believe God came and dwelt with among us...Some cannot believe He became a Baby and them a Teacher and Rabbi...And as a Teacher and traveling Rabbi, He not only taught about God He taught about Himself...And He said some very unusual things...If God became a Man wouldn't He say some things that are a little bit different than what we would say...If God became a Man what would you think He would say?...
Jesus had an interesting and humble way of teaching us about Himself...
St. Matthew who was a Disciple of His and a tax collector, wrote these different things in his Gospel of St. Matthew...Jesus said that whoever acknowledges Him before others will be rewarded by Him, and He will acknowledge them before His Father in heaven...But whoever disowns Him before others, then He will disown them before His Father in heaven...We are not to suppose that He has came down from heaven to bring peace to earth...He did not come to bring peace, but He brought a sword of sorts...For He has came to turn “‘a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law— a man’s enemies will be the members of his own household.’...Anyone who loves their own father or mother more than Him is not worthy of Him; anyone who loves their son or daughter more than Him is not worthy of Him...Whoever does not take up their cross and follow Him is not worthy of Him...Whoever finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for His sake will find it...Anyone who welcomes His Disciples and followers welcomes Him, and anyone who welcomes Him welcomes the One who sent Him...Whoever welcomes a prophet as a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever welcomes a righteous person as a righteous person will receive a righteous person’s reward...And if anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones who is His disciples, truly He tells us, that that person will certainly not lose their reward...
What if someone you know or even someone you don't know, says these words or something like this to you?...What if they told you if you find your life you will lose it, but if you find your life for His sake, you will find an abundant life?...What would you think of them?...
There is something Special in these words...There is something extreme in these words...There is something Divine in these words...There is something holy in His Words...There is something sacred in His Words...There is something Spiritual in these words...These words that Jesus said are unusual, in fact, they are very unusual words, if He is only a Man...But Jesus is more than a mere Man...He is a Divine Man... If we take His words literally, then we can see that He is more than a mortal Man...And as one rereads these words, how else can they be read but as literally...Jesus word's gives us a fantastic story and one can easily see that He thinks He is from heaven...And that God is His Father, waiting for Him in heaven...
If God came to earth, we might expect Him to speak quite differently from us...We would expect Him to say the greatest words ever spoken...These words make me believe that Jesus is claiming to be God...I believe that Jesus is in heaven, and I trust God, and I trust and believe in Him...
