John 14:1-14
Jesus Comforts His Disciples
1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”
Jesus the Way to God our Father
5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”
9 Jesus answered: “Don’t you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? 10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak on my own authority. Rather, it is the Father, living in me, who is doing his work. 11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves. 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
Jesus was a traveling Rabbi....But He was much more...He was the One who knows more about God than any other Man...And He had a simple plan to teach the world...He wandered everyday for three years ministering and teaching about God in small towns and villages...He chose twelve men to help Him and eleven of them did follow His Ways and one did not...He wanted them to believe in God, but also in Him...And when they did, He would prepare a place in heaven for them...The eleven did as He did and followed Him all the way to His death and resurrection and were taught by Him for an additional forty days after His death...He knew that His Teachings and Hs Relationship with His Father and the disciples over the years would create a new religion called Christianity...
As the disciples found out and we find in the gospel and His teachings as we get closer to Jesus, He reveals not only who He is and what He is like, but who we are and what we are like...And this continues, since His Words will never pass, with every generation and shows us that Jesus is the same, yesterday, today, and forever...
In Jesus eternal teachings He says that the only way to God is through Him is believable if you believe He is the Way, the Truth, and the Life...He teaches that He came to earth for sinners and that we are dead and morally lost in our sins and to get to God we must go through Him...We can learn from the gospels and say my sins sent Him to the cross...He paid for our sins and our sin debt on the cross when He died on that cross...We are dependent on God and the One He sent to save us and give us Eternal Life...Jesus is One with the Father...Those who got to see Jesus have seen the Father...He is our Savior and no One else on earth can save us...The eleven disciples believed Him...Jesus knew that His Words would never pass...He knew that the eleven would love as He did, believe in God as He taught them, and knew that they would succeed in a revolution after His death in bringing His teachings to others generation after generation to the world and the ends of the earth...And so, Jesus is still able after His death to stretch His hands across the centuries of time and control the destinies of men and nations...
