John 14:1-4
Jesus Comforts His Disciples
1 "Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. 2 In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going."
When I am troubled I should go to John's Gospel more often and read what Jesus said to His disciples, on His most troubled night...This was Jesus' last night before His arrest...He knows and has predicted and told His disciples that He only has a little time and will be with them only a little longer (John 13:33)...Jesus, of course, was troubled in spirit (John 13:21)...Soon He would be crucified...But as you read through John's gospel in chapter fourteen before His arrest, you do not get a feel of Jesus worrying, or being apprehensive, or even being anxious about His upcoming fate...No one on earth has ever had more faith in God, than Jesus...His foundation belief and worldview is completely about His Father...He trusts in His Father and knows He will be delivered...
He is going to die for our sins, my sins, and His disciples sins...He is on His way to death for something we did...Our God is just, and sin must be punished...The punishment for our sins is the death of His Son, and our Savior...Jesus will go to the cross for our sins, my sins...
On the last night with His disciples and with His own death on His mind, what does He do?...He comforts others...He comforts His disciples...He is comforting His friends...He tells them and us, let not your hearts be troubled... Trust in God, but trust also in Him...In God's house, there are plenty of rooms for all...If this were not true He would have told us so...He is going to heaven, and I will make a place for you...And if He goes and makes a place for His disciples and us, He will come back and take them and us with Him, so that we also may be where He is...He wants us to be with Him...And the place He is going, is heaven..
Heaven is a large place, and Jesus wants us to know there is plenty of room there for believers and His followers...He had to come to earth to die for our sins, and after this He will return back to His Father (John 17:13 and Acts 1:9)...In the most troubled hour of His life, He is thinking and helping others...He is focused on God and trusts Him....When we are troubled, and anxiety is all around, we must trust in God, and trust also in Him...
