Ecclesiastes 3:10-14
God Has Eternity in Man's Heart
10 I have seen the burden God has laid on men. 11 He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. 12 I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live. 13 That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil—this is the gift of God. 14 I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that men will revere him.
John 14:1-4
Our Father's House -Heaven
1"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. 2In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4You know the way to the place where I am going."
1 Corinthians 2:6-10
No Eye Has Seen, Nor Ear Has Heard
6 We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. 7 No, we speak of God’s secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. 8 None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. 9 However, as it is written:
“No eye has seen,
no ear has heard,
no mind has conceived
what God has prepared for those who love him” —
10 but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit.
God has set eternity in the hearts of men...Yet, man cannot fathom or even imagine what God has done from beginning to end...And in the end we cannot fathom with our eyes, or ears, or our minds what God has prepared for those who love Him...He has prepared a grand place for us...Jesus tells us we will have a room in His Father's house, in heaven...And His Son says He is there right now preparing that particular room for us...And this room is nice, really nice...
Earthly life will not always be easy...God has a laid the burden on men, and as we go through our time on earth, we have troubles and sufferings...But God has made everything beautiful in its time...And by doing do, we may enjoy His creation of earth now, and later of heaven...
When Solomon says God has set eternity in our hearts, I relate it to St. Augustine saying "God has made us for thyself, and our hearts will not rest until they rest within thee."...We are not going to be satisfied with the material things we have on earth, and we are not even going to be satisfied with being able the satisfying the desires we have on earth with earthly pleasures...We have a spiritual yearning for Him...Our heart cannot rest until we get back home to Him, back home in His house, our Father's House...Nothing but being in His Presence will satisfy this eternity in our hearts...
Yet, to get to Him, we must pass through this life...My mother says, everyone wants to get to heaven, but no one wants to die...I think this is part of what the above verses are about...God seems to have put a light veil around our eyes, our ears, our minds, and our hearts, and we can't quite see or even imagine quite what heaven or what He has prepared for us, after we live this current life...We see through our veils with our Holy Spirit...Through this veil we are shown only glimpses, only small slices of the perfect world, created by the Perfect Truth...Through the Holy Spirit, we somehow see (only this glimpse) and hear of (only this slice) -and we think of this eternity that Solomon writes about...And through these glimpses and slices, we imagine the heaven that St. Paul speaks of...
In our imaging heaven, we are told that our imaginations will fall far, far short of what God has prepared for us...So when we imagine heaven, let us think of the greatest of things that heaven could be, and let us not under do it or underestimate it...Imagine the greatness of God, and the greatness of our Father's Grand House...Let us not have our earthly expectations fall short of the greatness of the eternal heaven that is in our hearts (even though St. Paul ways it will)...So do not only reach for the sky, reach for heaven...Reach as far as you can in your imagination...Of all the things one could ever imagine, heaven is the grandest...So imagine the greatest things, you can ever imagine about heaven...No mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him...
