John 14:1-7
Jesus Comforts His Disciples
1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”
5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?”
6 Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.”
To have faith and believe in Jesus and being a Christian means different things to different people...Jesus told His Disciples to believe in Him and to trust in Him, just as they trusted and believed in God...Believing in Jesus and trusting them makes us want to do better...When we have faith in Jesus, means to trust and believe in Him, just as His Disciples did...And when we do this we do our best to follow His teachings...Jesus is the Way to Heaven and the Way to God...
C. S. Lewis wrote in Mere Christianity that “[To have Faith in Christ] means, of course, trying to do all that He says...There would be no sense in saying you trusted a person if you would not take his advice...Thus if you have really handed yourself over to Him, it must follow that you are trying to obey Him...But trying in a new way, a less worried way...Not doing these things in order to be saved, but because He has begun to save you already...Not hoping to get to Heaven as a reward for your actions, but inevitably wanting to act in a certain way because a first faint gleam of Heaven is already inside you.”...
