John 14:1-4
Jesus Talks of Heaven to His Disciples
1 “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”
Mark 12:18-27
God is the Living God
18 Then the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question. 19 “Teacher,” they said, “Moses wrote for us that if a man’s brother dies and leaves a wife but no children, the man must marry the widow and raise up offspring for his brother. 20 Now there were seven brothers. The first one married and died without leaving any children. 21 The second one married the widow, but he also died, leaving no child. It was the same with the third. 22 In fact, none of the seven left any children. Last of all, the woman died too. 23 At the resurrection whose wife will she be, since the seven were married to her?”
24 Jesus replied, “Are you not in error because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God? 25 When the dead rise, they will neither marry nor be given in marriage; they will be like the angels in heaven.26 Now about the dead rising—have you not read in the Book of Moses, in the account of the burning bush, how God said to him, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? 27 He is not the God of the dead, but of the living. You are badly mistaken!”
Luke 16:19-31
Heaven and Hell
19 “There was a rich man who was dressed in purple and fine linen and lived in luxury every day. 20 At his gate was laid a beggar named Lazarus, covered with sores 21 and longing to eat what fell from the rich man’s table. Even the dogs came and licked his sores.
22 “The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. 23 In Hades, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, with Lazarus by his side. 24 So he called to him, ‘Father Abraham, have pity on me and send Lazarus to dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue, because I am in agony in this fire.’
25 “But Abraham replied, ‘Son, remember that in your lifetime you received your good things, while Lazarus received bad things, but now he is comforted here and you are in agony. 26 And besides all this, between us and you a great chasm has been set in place, so that those who want to go from here to you cannot, nor can anyone cross over from there to us.’
27 “He answered, ‘Then I beg you, father, send Lazarus to my family,28 for I have five brothers. Let him warn them, so that they will not also come to this place of torment.’
29 “Abraham replied, ‘They have Moses and the Prophets; let them listen to them.’
30 “‘No, father Abraham,’ he said, ‘but if someone from the dead goes to them, they will repent.’
31 “He said to him, ‘If they do not listen to Moses and the Prophets, they will not be convinced even if someone rises from the dead.’”
John 3:16-17
God LOVES the World
16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. 17 For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.
John 17:3
Now This is Eternal Life
3 Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.
What makes you remember someone?...What accompanies one to be remembered for a very long time?...What makes one great?...What makes one famous?...When we look at the things that Jesus did we can see that He has this uniqueness, when compared to other famous and remembered people...Why would He be remembered after all these centuries and other men not remembered?...
He was born into a poor family...He became a carpenter by trade, and then turned over His carpenter tools to become a Teacher...He was a traveling Teacher...He traveled from small village to small village meeting and talking and teaching people...He chose Twelve men to follow Him, which were known and are known as His Twelve Disciples...And this was His main group of followers, this small group, even though with what He said and the way He spoke He drew crowds of up to five thousand...
Since He was a Teacher and is still remembered, He had to teach something that people of not only His time took notice to, but also all the generations that have followed Him would remember Him...What He taught and teaches is the Eternities...He teaches us about God, who is Eternal and He teaches about Eternal Life...Life is eternal...We live on after our deaths, just as He lives on after His death and He still lives today...Life is eternal after our deaths, with both a Heaven and a hell...And there is a great chasm between Heaven and hell...He taught in parables, and many, if not all, of His parables are about the Kingdom of God...One day He told His Disciples that He was going back to Heaven, to His Father's house, which contains many, many rooms...And He would prepare a place for them, a place in Heaven reserved for His Disciples...One statement that marks His Eternal teachings on this particular subject is that there is a Living God...And He speaks about the Living God after a question from a group of Sadducees...And then He had the authority from God to do miracles, which helped support His Teachings about Eternity, God, Heaven, and hell...And the miracles He did were done in the public, not hidden...
And when Jesus was teaching us about eternal life, He cared for everyone...He especially made His way to the poor, the weak, those who were outcasts, and those who felt like they were outcasts...He helped and showed kindness to those who needed mercy and were suffering...He met a deep seated human-cry for these groups, as He walked and taught people about eternal life...He showed mercy to these groups, and gave them hope...
Jesus taught much about love and we learn that God LOVES the world...For God so LOVED the world that He gave His One and Only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life...For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him...
So to me, Jesus is remembered for teaching us about the Eternities, about Eternal Life...And He says and tells us what Eternal Life is...He says, "Now this is eternal life: that they know you, the Only True God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent."...Knowing God and Jesus are Eternal Life...We shall not perish when we believe in God and His Son, but we shall have Eternal Life...
