John 14:1-4
Jesus Comforts His Followers
1"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. 2In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you. I am going there to prepare a place for you. 3And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am. 4You know the way to the place where I am going."
When I read this about Jesus comforting His disciples about death, I find this very unusual...One might ask who would give others comforting thoughts about death...Your answer might be a minister or preacher, a close friend, or a loved one...What makes these comments so unusual, it is Jesus who is going to be hanging from a cross in the next few hours...It is He who is going to die...And yet, He is comforting and preparing His Disciples for His Own death...
What kind of Man, can comfort a group of people calmly when He knows the whole situation, and the detail, second by second of His torturing crucifixion and death...The words that come to my mind, are One Who is Divine, and One who LOVES us and His disciples very much...
