As a fibre artist, my work is inspired by the natural textures and colours found in nature, I dye my own cloth using plants grown around me then distress and manipulate it to incorporate it into my work. New fabric takes on different form when its been hung outside for weeks or soaked in a bucket of rusty water. Silk is my most loved fibre and I source unusual waste products from the manufacturing process which would otherwise be sent to landfill. These fibres become enticing embellishment when layered with bark cloth and handmade rag paper and can become the basis for unique pieces of fabric to be used in projects. Having spent 25 years as a storyteller, I make sense of what I create through the power of storytelling, never really knowing where a piece will go but always believing that the story will emerge within its layers. Other peoples stories will be different to mine and my work invites them to be told.
