My story with clay began when my daughter said one day “Shall we treat ourselves to a spa day?”. Not being someone who likes to lie around I suggested doing something more creative instead. We had three lessons from a local potter and I was hooked. I carried on having lessons with Peter, who lives locally and has been a potter for 40 years, until I reached the point where he was happy to send me off on my own.
Everything I produce is hand made - mainly on the wheel. I use stoneware clay and food safe glazes which are fired to 1235ºC and are microwave, oven and dishwasher safe. Learning pottery and the art of throwing has given me great pleasure and it is humbling to see someone else wanting to own and enjoy a piece that I have made. When I started out I used to find that the clay had a mind of it’s own - which reminds me of my Christian faith - that I once used to want to go my own way but now I understand that God has His own plans for my life.
