'Oil Painting for the Petrified' with Rachel Duffield

A friendly, inclusive 4-week beginners course teaching oil painting basics in a small group for adults and teens who’ve never tried this fantastic, flexible art medium before. Each 2-hr session will cover a little bit of theory and a lot of practice, in a supportive, cheerful and relaxed environment. By the end of the course you will have gained the basics you need to progress with confidence - maybe you’ll even create a mini masterpiece of your own! 

Jewellery enamelling

Lino Printing Workshop:

Learn how to create a single block A5 linocut with Gill Thornton. All tools, materials and example designs provided, but please feel free to bring your own tools/ sketches/photographs if you have any. Pastel pencil workshop  10am-1pm £35 Wood mouse and introduction to drawing fur with pastel pencils. Morning workshop with Emily Rose Fine Art

This half-day class is a perfect introduction for learning how to create fur in pastel pencils. This class will be focusing on how pastels can be layered to achieve a realistic result that you can use in your own drawings. We will begin with an underpainting and then use different tones and colours to build depth and textures. You will be shown how to properly draw fur with Emily's technique that she uses to create her own wildlife and pet portrait drawings. 

Emily will go through your materials and those which she most recommends and why, how to begin any drawing with effective transferring techniques, how to build up form by using tone and create the texture of fur. This class is a brilliant introduction for those who haven't tried pastels before or those who would like to properly learn how to create fur for mammals.

How to draw a hare's eye using pastel pencils. Morning workshop with Emily Rose Fine Art £35 

Come and join Emily Rose on a relaxing and friendly workshop in pastel pencils where she will guide you through drawing a bright and alert eye of a hare. 


This beginner-friendly class includes some exciting techniques, like, how to make something look reflective and how to give a convincing depth and texture to hair and fur. Pastel pencils are a versatile and rewarding medium to work in, Emily is a specialist in not only pastels but wildlife and you are sure to enjoy producing this study under her tuition.
You will begin by learning how to transfer an image and from there will build up the painting in layers, known as an underpainting. Emily will then show you how to add the glinting reflection to the eye and surround it convincingly with a soft-enough-to-touch brow.

In this introductory class to pastel pencils, Emily Rose will guide you through the process of drawing a beautiful horse eye from the side. 

This is a perfect class for people who wish to try pastel pencils for the first time, or, who fancy a shorter class and a rewarding project. This class will teach you how to build highlights, midtones and shadows, as well as some colour theory which will make your work more exciting and lively! The taster class will focus on building up a convincingly round eye ball, with shadows and a gleaming highlight. The eye lids and sockets around, will be suggested with some gestural shading to complete the effect

Join Emily Rose on a relaxing and friendly half day workshop in pastel pencils where she will guide you through drawing a delicate and detailed Peacock Butterfly. 

This beginner-friendly class calls for vibrant colours and basic core techniques which Emily will teach you throughout the workshop. Pastel pencils are a versatile and rewarding medium to work in, Emily is a specialist in pastels and wildlife and you are sure to enjoy producing this Butterfly under her tuition. You will begin by learning how to transfer an image and from there will build up the painting in layers, known as an underpainting. Emily will then show you how to add the illusion realism by balancing sharp detail and soft edges, finished off with a very convincing shadow under the wings - it may just take flight!
