Playing octaves on guitar is an easy technique to have in your musical bag of tricks. They are useful in a variety of musical settings and styles—from Jazz to Rock. There are two primary ways to play octaves on guitar. Both involve muting the inside string between the notes of two other strings. This creates two different forms on guitar, and each form is based off of a root. Let’s learn how to play octaves and use them in various musical styles.
