Jazz Basics
Jazz guitar playing is filled with tremendously rich sounding chords. Jazz uses a lot of color tones beyond the normal 3-note triad based chords, like sevenths, ninths, and thirteenths. These extra notes and extra harmony are what give Jazz guitar chords such a rich and complex sound. The 15 chords in this lesson are a few of the basic building blocks for much of Jazz guitar chord playing.
This lesson covers…
• Major Seventh Chords
• Minor Seventh Chords
• Dominant Seventh Chords
• Ninths, Elevenths, & Thirteenth Chords
These chord forms offer a good foundation into Jazz guitar chords. They give you a great musical palette to create some rich Jazz guitar sounds. Grab your guitar and let’s get started! - Steve Krenz
Steve plays a Gibson Custom L-5 CT in this lesson.
