Mony Mony

Mony Mony

Brandon Trapp shows you around a great 60’s tune from Tommy James and The Shondells, called “Mony Mony.” This tune was a 1968 single that reached the top of the charts in the UK. The song came about as a stroke of luck or divine intervention.

In a 1995 interview, Tommy says that he was in New York finishing up the song. He had the track done, but no title or lyrics. Frustrated, he walked out on the balcony and looked up. In front of him was the Mutual of New York building, and top had their initials, MONY. Instantly, Tommy knew that was it, and the rest is history.

Brandon plays a Gibson Custom ES-335 Block Inlay in this lesson.

In the 7th grade Brandon got his first real guitar. After learning a few chords he found a 50's and 60's songbook lying around the house. Currently Brandon is a working musician and a guitar teacher at MusikWorks Studios in Rome, GA and is a regular contributor to Gibson.com.
