To create a new Goal State task, first create a new activity or select the existing activity where you want to add the Goal State task. Then click on the dropdown menu under the “New Task Type” line, and select “Goal state”. Then click on the “+ Add Task” button.
A task card for Goal State will be created, and a task menu for Goal State will automatically appear.
First, you would want to type in the initial and goal states for your students to work with. These states can be anything from math expressions to equations. To put in the states, double-click on the boxes for each state and a keypad will pop up. You can either click on the keypad, or simply type on your own keyboard to create the initial and goal states.
You can write instructions to students on what they should do. The default instruction is always: “Make the expression match the goal”, but please feel free to modify it based on your choice and your students’ needs.
You can also add a reflection question for your students. This is a great way for your students to reflect on their work and deepen their understanding. On top of the Goal State task card, check the “Include reflection prompt” box, and write the question you want your students to answer.
