Activities are the central pieces of Graspable Math Activities (hence our name!); therefore, it’s important for us to guide our users through creating new activities. By creating your own activities, you can customize and tailor your own content, in a way that is useful to your students or your target audience.
But don’t worry if you’re just starting using Graspable Math Activities (GMA) and not completely confident about creating your own activities yet! We have a collection of shared, ready-to-use algebra activities made by our team and our community of GMA users for you to refer to and adapt. Please visit the Search Existing Activities section to see how you can find these activities.
Go to the “Activity Bank” tab on the left bar your GMA page, then select the “Create Activity” button on the top right corner.
A card screen will pop up, where you can type in the name of the activity you’re creating. When you’re ready, click “Create”.
You will then be automatically transferred to a new page where you can start working on your new activity.
You can also modify your activity settings by clicking on the gear symbol next to your activity's name at the top left corner. A pop-up screen will appear with the Activity Settings. Your activities are always set as private by default, and you can make them public by turning the Public mode on. You can also modify the name of your activity under Title, or add Brief and Full Descriptions of your activity so that you and other GMA users can easily find your activity by searching keywords. To see step-by-step instructions, please visit the Renaming Activities Section
Tasks are crucial parts of an activity, and they are what your students will see and work on when they arrive at your activity. You can add different types of tasks to your activity.
To see the different task types available on GMA, and how you can create tasks for each type, please visit The Overview of Graspable Math Task Types Section.
