Canvas and GMA allows users to trace terms within a transformation; in other words, users can select a mathematical term and see its past transformation on the Canvas. Tracing terms is helpful to show students how a term was transformed within an equation, and how they can reconstruct terms as needed.

To trace a term, first you will need to show the full history of the transformed equation.

Select the “Scrub” button on the toolbar, then click on the term that you would like to trace. In our example below, we choose to trace the answer “2”. A green path will appear, showing how the term was transformed throughout the equation, and what other terms were used within the transformation.
